My name is Alex and I've been working in the field of games, graphics and animation for several years now.
My favorite field is computer graphics is performance animation. Never heard of it ? It goes by a few names as well, like real time animation and digital puppetry. It involves using different types of equipment to control a computer generated image in real time. I guess the simplest way of putting it is that it is a form of puppetry but instead of controlling a physical puppet made of paper, wood or cloth, you are controlling a computer generated image.
The technology to do performance animation has been around for quite a long time. It's called motion capture, and it's been in use in movie and TV special effects. There aren't too many people involved in it because it usually requires expensive hardware and software. I'd like to make performance animation a little more accessible to people out there by providing software, hardware and services that are simple to use and cost effective.
You can read more about how I got to develop the software and set up this site in the story of animocap.com.
My two main goals for this site are:
1. To get more people involved in performance animation, because it's such a fun and interesting thing to do, both as a hobby and as part of a career or business.
2. To provide more products and services that will make performance animation more accessible to more people.
There's free stuff available. You can get the PerfAnimStarterKit software in the products and services section. The starter kit is a special FREE version of the software that you can use to get you introduced to performance animation. You'll also find some tutorials in this website that will help you get started and learn about performance animation.
You can also purchase the PerfAnimPro package in the products and services section. When you avail of this version, you'll get access to the perfAnimPro website where you can download the pro version software, read more tutorials, articles, download more performance packs and get software updates.
If you have any comments and suggestions, just e-mail me. I'm doing all of this in my spare time because it's a very near and dear hobby to me. It's a difficult job being a programmer, 3d artist, webmaster, teacher and business guy all at once but all of this is a work in progress and I'm doing all I can to improve it. The funds I get from selling the pro-package will go into improving the site, software and providing more performance packs for you to use. Thank you very much and I hope you find your experience in performance animation a fun filled one.
And a special thanks to all the people who helped, shared the dream and laughed along the way (Air, Leslie, Arnel, Dennis, Rani, Tom, Hendrick, Ron and all the people who goofed around with me).
