Hi There, This site is about a training course I hold on creative thinking and problem solving, specifically for people involved in I.T. and/or software development. In over 20 years in the field of information technology and software development I've been involved with a lot of projects in quite a number of companies and I've noticed that companies almost always exclusively train their staff in the technology aspect. They let them go through training courses in programming languages, development environments, operating systems and other technical subjects. However, they rarely ever send their staff through any creative thinking course. Well, you may say, there's no need. People are creative enough anyway and mastery of their skills is the important thing. However, mastery of skills do not guarantee the ability to come up with a proper solution. Expertise in say, PHP development does not automatically mean a great web application. There is always a need to come up with the right approach to solving a particular problem. There is always a need for new ideas to make things better and/or easier. But how, you may ask? Some people are creative and some are not, you might say. Can people learn to be more creative in coming up with ideas? The answer is definitely YES! The ability of a group or a person to think creatively and solve problems is a skill just like any other. There are guidelines people should follow, thing they should avoid and things they should practice in order to improve this skill. These things are what you will learn in the course. Okay, let me give you an example. I'm sure everyone has attended a "brainstorming" session in your respective companies to discuss a project or try to solve a problem. Does everyone participate to the best of their abilities? Are you sure that everyone is telling their most creative ideas at the moment? I can almost guarantee that they're not. A great deal of the ideas they get in their minds are held back. One reason is fear. They're afraid their suggestion might be wrong and they might get "punished" for it. Well, that's a natural reaction. It happens even in companies where the boss is so extremely nice and approachable. So how do you solve this problem? How do you get your staff to be more open with their suggestions? Well, that's part of the training course. There are methods and exercises available that let you gain the most from group meetings.
